April 2017. The last Currently post before I turn thirty. Ajkdfhgkjhjdf.

I don’t know, though, guys. If thirty is anything like 29 years, 11 months, and 24 days (and I’m told it’s actually extremely similar), I think I’ll be okay. This month in preparation for the new decade, I faced a couple fears of mine – flying by myself and giving up sugar, grains, dairy, and alcohol on Whole30. Turns out it IS possible for me to do both of those things (although on day 11 of the Whole30 I tripped and fell into an order of Torchy’s chips and queso.) (And then I cheated a few times towards the end.) So less of a Whole30 and more of a Whole23 or something. Better than a WholeZero, right?

Making: This little key print to say goodbye to our first apartment together! If you missed it, we found a house to rent. Can’t wait to share more!
Cooking: My Whole30 staples were- Coffee: cold brew, water, and half a frozen banana blended together and served over ice. It was a little creamy and sweet and delicious. Breakfast: Eggs, avocado, hot sauce, and homemade turkey breakfast sausages sometimes with baked sweet potato fries. Lunch: Taco salad with ground turkey seasoned with compliant taco seasoning, avocado, fresh salsa, red onion, green onion, romaine, and this yummy compliant ranch. Dinner: Salmon topped with a little of this compliant mayo and charred broccoli . This obviously isn’t a food blog so I won’t go into more detail, but definitely reach out if you’re thinking of doing Whole30 or have any questions!
Reading: I finished In Cold Blood and it was amazing and fascinating and so well-written and researched by Truman Capote…but holy moly I need at least three very bad/light/easy beach reads to cleanse my palette. Yeesh.
Wanting
: ALL OF THE THINGS for the new house. The flooring isn’t my favorite…it’s not terrible, but I’m definitely in the market for several large area rugs. Holler at me if you see a deal. So far I’m tempted by this in 8×10 (in “Natural) for the bedroom.
Enjoying: Insanely good (read: non-humid) spring weather today in Austin. Windows open and a good hair day. I assume this is why people move to California.
Listening: Finished S-Town in about two days. My most vivid memory of it is when I was listening to it in the grocery store (pro-tip: this makes grocery shopping way easier to endure) and I walked down a full aisle without realizing my jaw had dropped/my mouth had been hanging open.
Needing: A team of fairies to come pack for us one night as we sleep. Salagadoola mechicka boola bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!
Smelling: Ye olde standby candle. It’s so good for spring.
Wearing: These slides like every day, this kimono/cardigan thing for upcoming cold weather in Colorado, these too-good-to-be-true knockoffs, this possibly perfect one-piece swimsuit, these gold earrings, and this maxi dress which happens to be the perfect length if you are five feet tall.
Loving: New month, same thing: date nights at our favorite neighborhood spot made even better by patio weather + Beans.
Watching: Matt had to travel for work for a week, and when that happens I take advantage of watching the stuff I think he probably wouldn’t be in to. This time it was Girlboss, which was cute and made me feel like I too could sell things on eBay and build a business empire. Turns out this is harder than I thought. Also, I gobbled up the first three episode of The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu and can’t WAIT for more episodes. Elisabeth Moss really can do no wrong.
Bookmarking: Little Green Notebook is my favorite for pretty/easy DIYS and this one is no different, I’ve been using Pinterest to save a lot of the things I’m eyeing for the new house, and I love this post about what you miss about “home.”
Feeling: Very excited to for everything May holds, which is not limited to turning thirty but also includes my brother’s graduation in Colorado, our move, and a trip to LA to stay with my best friend and watch our other best friend get married. Woo!

Very little to complain about this month. High points: our Marfa trip, getting to visit with an old friend of mine in town for SXSW, heading to a free Garth Brooks concert put on by the city for locals only, seeing one of Matt’s old friends get married, and in general enjoying some crazy good weather before the heat and mosquitoes arrive. Also, I bought a disco ball. Probably should have put that one first.

Austin Texas Town Lake View

Making: Gonna cheat and say I’m making a blog post.
Cooking: Warm weather means shrimp tacos and turkey burgers with sweet potato fries. No complaining here!
Reading: My hold on In Cold Blood from the library just got released to me, so I’m starting it tonight! I’m excited. And scared. Also, I got the GASP-you-haven’t-read-it?? thing from three people when I mentioned how excited I am for Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, so that’s next on my reading list.
Wanting
: To mention that the patio plants I told you I didn’t want to kill last month…I haven’t killed them. Not only are they not dead — they are flowering! I’M SO PROUD.
Enjoying: What it feels like to be Molly, Queen of Flowering Patio Plants.
Listening: Finished the Missing Richard Simmons podcast and it made me sad. Poor guy must be exhausted. Also, do yourself a favor and listen to the Big Little Lies soundtrack. So great!
Needing: A place to live in seven weeks. 😀
Smelling: This Rosemary and sea salt candle in this pretty cobalt container. I think I can officially say without reservation after almost thirty years of life that cobalt is my very favorite color.
Wearing: Pretty much daily: these blush sandals, this grey cardigan, this easy black top
Loving: Date nights at our favorite neighborhood spot made even better by patio weather + Beans. (pictured below)
Watching: We worked our way through the entirety of The Office, and now we’re doing the same with Arrested Development. And we watched The Shining — my first time, but not Matt’s. It was wayyy scarier than I thought it’d be. I couldn’t sleep that night!
Bookmarking: Orlando Soria is back to blogging (so witty, so stylish, so honest!), this site offers custom mats for Ikea’s RIBBA frame (!!), and for the This Is Us obsessed, Mandy Moore’s IRL mid-century home is getting a facelift.
Feeling: Excited about diving into my book tonight. It’s been kind of a day.

As I mentioned last month, I’m ready for some equal-opportunity opinion-flinging as these posts are normally just me throwing a bunch of stuff at you. So, I’m ending each currently post with a question. This month: what is the best series finale you’ve ever seen? Off the top of my head, some of my favorites have been Six Feet Under’s, Scrubs’ (the original finale, before it got picked back up), and Monk’s (yes, you heard that right.) Dying to know yours!

Ah, February. We’ve had a tumultuous relationship in the past, but that’s mainly due to cold weather that’s been nonexistent this year. Do I like February now? Do YOU like February now? What is happening? Anyway…it felt like we squeezed a lot into the wee month between two fun weekend visits from family, soaking up as much gorgeous patio weather as possible, oh and being completely out with the flu for a week. Both of us. So that was fun. We’re referring to that time as Flumageddon. Here’s what the rest of February entailed:

ABA patio weather frose

Making: Little house updates for spring. The patio got a new rug and some new plants, the entry got a new mirror, and I’m feeling some spring/pre-move cleaning coming on.
Cooking: Loved these verde enchiladas — warm enough for “winter,” but light enough for the 80-90 degree days we’ve been having. Also, I want to lick the plate every time I make this honey soy glaze. I serve it over salmon, brussels sprouts, and a little bit of white rice.
Reading: I read Big Little Lies during Flumageddon, and I don’t know if I was just cranky from being sick or if it really did just kind of drag? The ending was really entertaining, but so far the show is bringing the story to life in ways that the book just didn’t for me. Probably because of the gorgeous beach houses and Reese. Always Reese. I’m halfway into The Light Between Oceans…my library rental expired before I finished it, so I need to check it out again. And this post inspired my next read: In Cold Blood. I’ve never read it!
Wanting
: To not kill the plants I bought for the patio. I’ve gotten pretty good at keeping indoor plants alive, but outdoor ones are harder for me. I have roughly a 10% success rate. This makes no sense to me. Plants belong outside. Why is this so hard??
Enjoying: Finn’s warm, blocky head resting on my leg while I write this. <3
Listening: I have been ridiculously obsessed with this song since being captivated by this choreography video. Also, queueing up some new podcasts for the long trip to Marfa this weekend: Revisionist History, Sword and Scale, and 2 Dope Queens.
Needing: Nothing, guys. I put myself on a buying freeze for house stuff until we know where we’re going to be living next. Seems…adult?
Smelling: A lemongrass peppermint mix in the diffuser. So yummy!
Wearing: Gotta ditch my normal work-from-home uniform of leggings and knits for cool-girl outfits if I want to have any street cred in Marfa. Here’s a few things I’m packing, including this hat that Matt is not a fan of, which cracks me up: this kimono in coral, these boots in Desert Calf, this necklace, and this top which is sold out and in looking up this link I found this top which I now want and it’s on saleeee…
Loving: The Kristin Ess shampoo and conditioner from her Target line. It’s sulfate and cruelty-free, it smells so yummy, and the bottles are so cute. Most importantly, I’ve been having some decent hair days.
Watching: I’ve seen The Office so many times, but Matt had never watched it from the beginning, so we’ve been watching the whole thing. It never, ever gets old.
Bookmarking: This page for new date night restaurant ideas, this tool to turn photos into digital copies, and this adorable Marfa community forum that a friend shared for our trip. You can find daily restaurant menus, closures, a lost and found, etc.
Feeling: Excited!! Have I said Marfa enough times in this post?

I always struggle with the currently posts because they are 100% me flinging what I’ve been up to and my opinions at you. I decided I want to end each of these with a question to get to know you all better so that there’s equal-opportunity opinion-flinging. I recently saw a friend ask this question on Facebook, and the answers were fascinating. Here’s the question: What is a song that makes you cry? Mine are Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Norah Jones’ Carnival Town. Answer in the comments!
