June was pretty wonderful! We had mostly the whole month to hang out in town, settle into the new home/neighborhood, and host our first weekend guest (my sister was the lucky guinea pig). We’ve been able to make lots house progress, even though the changes have been pretty simple – like moving furniture around, getting art hung, or switching out grey blackout curtains for white cotton ones. Blackout curtains and I don’t get along. I don’t know how yall do it. Every morning my body was like WHAT GD TIME IS IT GO BACK TO SLEEP YOU FOOL.

Making: We made some non-permanent posts for our string lights – if you missed it, you can find the post on posts here.
Cooking: I made my very favorite summer meal — a salad trio including: this chicken salad with feta, corn, and blueberries, this yummy spicy gouda pasta salad, and a simple caesar salad. So great. Also tried these shrimp foil packets which inspired me to make an old standby of my childhood, what we called “boy scout potatoes.” A classic!
Reading: In honor of the twentieth anniversary of the first Harry Potter book release, I’m reading them all over again. It’s been forever since I have done this and I can now officially say that even as a thirty year old, I love these books. The first one is available for free here through Amazon if you have Prime!
Wanting
: I need another pair of slides like I need a hole in the head, but come on
Enjoying: Morning walks with Finn in the new hood. He especially likes the yard with chickens. So many sniffs!
Listening: I just wanna see the light. And on the opposite end of the spectrum: changes. Related: I need more workout music! What do you love to listen to?
Needing: I’m leaning towards getting us a security system. This one is the frontrunner. Would love your advice! Do you have a system you’d recommend? We’re looking for a low monthly monitoring fee, nothing hard-wired, reliable performance, and great customer service.
Smelling: This scrumptious candle. Love the ceramic container, too.
Wearing: Can’t stop, won’t stop kimono-ing
Loving: A whole month of (mostly) being in town, and using a lot of that time to pull this house together. It’s really starting to feel like home.
Watching: GLOW which so far is really fun, Captain Fantastic which was an unexpected total treat of a movie, and I need to make time for my yearly summertime viewing of Wet Hot American Summer.
Bookmarking: This was useful to me, this website has been so helpful in researching stuff for the house, and this post articulated something that’s been bugging me for a while.
Feeling: Discombobulated by the long weekend and short week. Though I’m not complaining!

Well, May was amazing. A trip to Colorado, turning thirty, moving, and a trip to California…it was all SO fun, minus moving obviously, but I am also so excited to be home for a hot minute. Time to hang some art, work on the patio, host some guests, and cook lots of meals on our gas (!!) stove.

A flower shop in Steamboat that actually exists.

Making: Nothing for May…except a whole lotta Amazon purchases to help organize the new house.
Cooking: Busy months mean two things: very little cooking, and when I do cook, it’s staples that are easy. For May, that meant these standbys: chicken thighs with a red wine shallot sauce, turkey burgers, and chicken with tzatziki, basmati rice, and veggies.
Reading: Nada!
Wanting
: Same as last month: ALL OF THE THINGS for the new house. We’ve actually made some pretty decent headway on some of the major things we needed, but I haven’t pulled the trigger on some of the big “wants” – large rugs, curtains, etc. Someday soon I’ll put together a Whole Enchilada checklist for the Blue Door House to see what all needs to be done.
Enjoying: That thing that happens after a heavy rain where the sunset is amazing and the plants seem like they are just radiating green.
Listening: This cover of Walking on Sunshine is my new favorite song, and this episode of This American Life with three stories that answer the question “are we alone?” was so sweet and captivating.
Needing: For Leif to pull through. Fingers crossed! (Instagram for reference.)
Smelling: The biggest, pinkest, fluffiest, fragrant-est peonies from Trader Joe’s. (Another Insta for reference.) I want to stick my face in them every ten minutes and deeply inhale through my nose, Mary Katherine Gallagher-style.
Wearing: This eyelet top that I like so much I bought it in two colors, including the mustard color as a test to see if I can pull off a yellow. I think the verdict is that I like it enough that I don’t really care if I can pull it off.
Loving: Watching Finn figure out this whole yard thing. It rained a bunch this weekend and he hates water, but he recently discovered he LOVES mud. Hard to be mad at a dog that happy. (But I’m grateful that we have a dry spell coming up.)
WatchingKimmy Schmidt (and more importantly, Titus) is back to brighten our summers! This season has been fantastic so far. We laugh out loud, hard, through every episode. On a spookier note, my mom turned me on to Fortitude and I’m loving it. It’s like Twin Peaks set in a town off the Arctic meets British cop-drama meets the X-Files.
Bookmarking: I need all of these for all of my mail for the rest of time, these posts from Young House Love and Hommemaker have me trying to embrace the beige paint on every wall in our house, and this is a yes, obviously.
Feeling: So content to have the whole month stretched in front of us with nowhere to be. Time to settle in, enjoy our new place, and soak up Austin in the summertime.

All the pretty colors, textures, and patterns at my friends’ stupidly cute bungalow in Santa Monica.

April 2017. The last Currently post before I turn thirty. Ajkdfhgkjhjdf.

I don’t know, though, guys. If thirty is anything like 29 years, 11 months, and 24 days (and I’m told it’s actually extremely similar), I think I’ll be okay. This month in preparation for the new decade, I faced a couple fears of mine – flying by myself and giving up sugar, grains, dairy, and alcohol on Whole30. Turns out it IS possible for me to do both of those things (although on day 11 of the Whole30 I tripped and fell into an order of Torchy’s chips and queso.) (And then I cheated a few times towards the end.) So less of a Whole30 and more of a Whole23 or something. Better than a WholeZero, right?

Making: This little key print to say goodbye to our first apartment together! If you missed it, we found a house to rent. Can’t wait to share more!
Cooking: My Whole30 staples were- Coffee: cold brew, water, and half a frozen banana blended together and served over ice. It was a little creamy and sweet and delicious. Breakfast: Eggs, avocado, hot sauce, and homemade turkey breakfast sausages sometimes with baked sweet potato fries. Lunch: Taco salad with ground turkey seasoned with compliant taco seasoning, avocado, fresh salsa, red onion, green onion, romaine, and this yummy compliant ranch. Dinner: Salmon topped with a little of this compliant mayo and charred broccoli . This obviously isn’t a food blog so I won’t go into more detail, but definitely reach out if you’re thinking of doing Whole30 or have any questions!
Reading: I finished In Cold Blood and it was amazing and fascinating and so well-written and researched by Truman Capote…but holy moly I need at least three very bad/light/easy beach reads to cleanse my palette. Yeesh.
Wanting
: ALL OF THE THINGS for the new house. The flooring isn’t my favorite…it’s not terrible, but I’m definitely in the market for several large area rugs. Holler at me if you see a deal. So far I’m tempted by this in 8×10 (in “Natural) for the bedroom.
Enjoying: Insanely good (read: non-humid) spring weather today in Austin. Windows open and a good hair day. I assume this is why people move to California.
Listening: Finished S-Town in about two days. My most vivid memory of it is when I was listening to it in the grocery store (pro-tip: this makes grocery shopping way easier to endure) and I walked down a full aisle without realizing my jaw had dropped/my mouth had been hanging open.
Needing: A team of fairies to come pack for us one night as we sleep. Salagadoola mechicka boola bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!
Smelling: Ye olde standby candle. It’s so good for spring.
Wearing: These slides like every day, this kimono/cardigan thing for upcoming cold weather in Colorado, these too-good-to-be-true knockoffs, this possibly perfect one-piece swimsuit, these gold earrings, and this maxi dress which happens to be the perfect length if you are five feet tall.
Loving: New month, same thing: date nights at our favorite neighborhood spot made even better by patio weather + Beans.
Watching: Matt had to travel for work for a week, and when that happens I take advantage of watching the stuff I think he probably wouldn’t be in to. This time it was Girlboss, which was cute and made me feel like I too could sell things on eBay and build a business empire. Turns out this is harder than I thought. Also, I gobbled up the first three episode of The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu and can’t WAIT for more episodes. Elisabeth Moss really can do no wrong.
Bookmarking: Little Green Notebook is my favorite for pretty/easy DIYS and this one is no different, I’ve been using Pinterest to save a lot of the things I’m eyeing for the new house, and I love this post about what you miss about “home.”
Feeling: Very excited to for everything May holds, which is not limited to turning thirty but also includes my brother’s graduation in Colorado, our move, and a trip to LA to stay with my best friend and watch our other best friend get married. Woo!
